Several weeks ago we shared a story about a family in Hastings who have been forced from their rental home because a contractor employed to waterblast the roof exposed asbestos. The debris and paint from the water blasting has coated the lawns and play equipment. WorkSafe issued a prohibition notice forcing the family and their neighbour from their homes.
Costs continue to escalate for the contractor. Asbestos fibres have been found in the carpet, soft furnishings and kids teddies! The lawn and garden, currently covered by black plastic to contain the asbestos are likely to need to be removed.
The interview with the tenant can be heard here.
